110 fresh Covid infections in state, highest rise in 40 days | Bhubaneswar News

BHUBANESWAR: Amid the surge in infection count elsewhere in the country, Odisha on Friday reported 110 fresh Covid cases.
Though there has been no significant rise in the number of tests being conducted daily, the new cases have sparked fears of a second Covid wave in the state. The state had last witnessed more than 110 cases on January 30 when 114 people had tested positive.
The fresh cases had last breached the double-digit mark on February 9 with 105 people testing positive for the coronavirus.
The latest figure is out of the 24,572 samples that were tested.
The state has been maintaining an average daily testing of 20,000 samples. However, the government authorities maintained there is no reason of either become alarmed or complacent.
“There has been a slight increase in new cases. But there is no need to panic. People shouldn’t become complacent and must continue to adhere to Covid-appropriate behaviour,” additional chief secretary (health) Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra said.
