1,970 new Covid-19 cases reported in Kerala | Thiruvananthapuram News


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With 1,970 new Covid cases being reported on Tuesday, the total number of cases recorded till date in the state has gone up to 10,94,290. Among the new cases, 1,742 were due to local transmission and contact source of infection was not traceable in145 cases. There are five healthcare professionals among those infected and 70 people had arrived from outside the state.
At the same time, 2,884 patients recovered from the disease. Meanwhile, 15 deaths that occurred over the past few days were confirmed to be Covid-19 deaths, taking the death toll in the state to 4,423.
A total of 99 people who returned from the UK, four persons from South Africa and one who came from Brazil have turned positive. Till date, 11 of them have been diagnosed with the new strain of the virus while 91 have tested negative for it. The remaining results are awaited from NIV, Pune.
In the past 24 hours, 60,974 samples were tested with a test positivity rate of 3.2%. A total of 1,23,90,578 samples have been sent for testing so far. Till date, 10,63,444 people have recovered from the infection in state and 26,127 patients are still undergoing treatment.
Ernakulam reported the highest number of cases (238) followed by Kozhikode (237), Kottayam (217), Kannur
(176), Thrissur (166), Thiruvananthapuram (165), Kollam (163), Pathanamthitta (126), Alappuzha (103), Malappuram (102), Idukki (81), Kasaragod (78), Palakkad (69) and Wayanad (49).
A total of 1,43,461 persons are presently under observation in various districts, of which 1,39,309 are at homes or institutional quarantine centres and 4,152 are in isolation at hospitals. As many as 449 people were admitted to hospitals. There are currently 355 hotspots in state.
