DUMKA: The post-mortem report of Shivcharan Mandal (72), who died on Monday night soon after getting the first dose of the Covishield vaccine, is still awaited, health officials in Jamtara said on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the district level team formed to look into Adverse Event Following Immunisation (AEFI) has started a probe in this case.
Jamtara civil surgeon Dr Asha Ekka said prima facie, the vaccine’s side-effects does not appear to be the cause of the death. “Had that been the case, the deceased’s wife, who is in her 60s, would also have developed some complication. That is not the case.” On the status of post mortem, she said, “The report is awaited from Patliputra Medical College and Hospital in Dhanbad. The viscera been preserved for further examination.”
Mandal had had complained of stomach pain and died four hours after taking the vaccine. While Jamtara administration on Tuesday said he was administered another injection for stomach pain by an uncertified medical practitioner, the claims was found to be false.
Dr C K Sahi, district reproductive and child health (RCH) officer of Jamtara said, “The information of the deceased given some injection for stomach pain was wrong as he died even before he could be taken to the health centre.”
