KOLKATA: The Election Commission has directed East Midnapore DM Smita Pandey to submit a report on a complaint lodged by Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien, seeking deletion of Suvendu Adhikari’s name from the electoral rolls of Nandigram because his name also appears on the voter list of Haldia assembly constituency.
The Rajya Sabha MP has also urged the EC to cancel Adhikari’s nomination for making “false declarations”.
The complaint says that the BJP candidate from Nandigram has declared in his affidavit that his name is on the electoral rolls of Nandigram alone.
O’Brien submitted a copy of the Haldia electoral rolls and urged EC that Adhikari’s name from Nandigram be deleted, as the law says that no person shall be registered as a voter in more than one constituency.
The MP wrote: “It appears Adhikari filed an application in Form 6 for migration of his name from the electoral rolls of Haldia assembly constituency to Nandigram with false particulars of his residence.”
The Trinamool leader also sought appropriate legal action, including criminal proceedings, against Adhikari for making such “false declarations”.
