KOLKATA: Several thousand students from over150 Calcutta University-affiliated colleges will take their first semester examination from Saturday onwards, setting off a flurry of activities with principals holding meetings with professors to adopt a “student-friendly” attitude since this batch will be appearing for an online examination for the first time.
While some principals have instructed examiners to allow extra minutes to the students to complete the paper, some principals have already made arrangements to receive the answer scripts offline if a student finds it difficult to submit it online.
Many colleges have held demonstration session with the students on how to access the question papers, the duration they will be allowed to write and the process of submission.
“First-semester students do not have any experience of online examination. Some students might get a little nervous, but we are making all arrangements to assist our students. If any student is unable to submit the answer script online, I will be present in the college to receive it,” said Siuli Sarkar, principal of Lady Brabourne College.
The examinations for the core or Honours subject will be on March 20 and March 21 between 10 am and1 pm. Examination for the elective subjects will be held between March 22 and March 25. The ability enhancement compulsory course exams will be held on March 26. “Examinations are being held according to the UGC directive to wrap up the semester exams in March,” said a Calcutta University official.
