Covid-19: Society to be isolated if 10% infected | Ahmedabad News

AHMEDABAD: With Ahmedabad reporting more and more Covid cases with each passing day, the civic administration has decided reintroduce curbs and come down hard on those violating safety norms. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has decided that if10% of households in a society are infected, the entire society will be declared a micro-containment area.
The AMC, on Friday, also made it mandatory for vegetable vendors, barbers, mall attendants and delivery boys among others to carry Covid-testing certificate.
A review meeting was chaired by additional chief secretary (forest and environment) Rajiv Kumar Gupta, who is incharge of Covid management in the city, and Municipal Commissioner Mukesh Kumar. During the meeting, it was decided to quarantine an entire society or area if large number of cases are reported from one pocket.
AMC officials said that in an apartment of 20 houses, if infection is reported from three houses, the floor will be microcontained. However, if there are 7-8 cases, the entire apartment will be quarantined.
Officials added that in an area, if three or more societies have more than five cases then the area around the societies can also be micro-contained.
Also, AMC has decided to take up a special drive to test vegetable vendors, medical shop employees, grocery owners and staff, barbers, rickshaw drivers, and labourers. They will have to undergo rapid antigen test and get a health identity card. To facilitate this, people can undergo tests at 15 centres including AMC community hall, muster station among others.
The AMC also made it clear that mall attendants and delivery boys who come in direct contact with residents will have to get themselves tested. They will have to get RT-PCR test done and these tests will have to conducted from private laboratories. The staff will have to carry the report.
In the first phase of Covid outbreak, it was after June that the AMC had imposed such a move and over 2,000-odd vendors and delivery boys tested positive. In the first phase itself, 700 out of the 4000-odd vegetable vendors, who were checked, tested positive.
