CHANDIGARH: Amid the rising Covid-19 cases in the city, the district education officer has issued a fresh circular to the principals of all the government schools of the city regarding Covid-19 testing. The testing will start from Saturday at all the schools.
In a letter which was sent on Friday, it has been clearly mentioned that Covid-19 testing at educational institutes will help check the spread of the infection.
It was further mentioned that the school officials are requested to coordinate with the team of the health department of the Chandigarh administration whenever they visit the schools for the testing.
However, it has been also cleared that the testing of students will be done after taking consent from parents. According to the schedule set by the officials, the testing will start from Saturday at GMSSS-20D, GMSSS-21A and GMHS-20D.
Meanwhile, teachers of government schools claimed that the officials should consider closing schools amid rising cases. DEO Neena Kalia refused to comment.
Rubinderjit Singh Brar, director, school education, said, “Safety and health of students and staff is our first priority. The DHS team will be testing in schools to assess and contain the spread of the virus and it will help the department in deciding the future course of action for the next academic session i.e. April 21.”
However, sources revealed that testing in a few middle schools, where the staff is less, has already been done recently. In middle schools, students are not coming as they are giving exams in online mode.
