RAMGARH: A Dalit family at Nayaktola in Ramgarh’s Gola block approached the district administration on Tuesday with the complaint that a local panchayat of their community has issued a social boycott order against them in connection with a land dispute.
Ramgarh DC Sandeep Singh said, “I have asked the Gola circle officer to look into the matter and if it is found to be true, then appropriate action will be taken against those for issuing such unlawful orders.”
According to complainant Sitesh Nayak, he had a tiff over a plot of land with another Dalit man, following which a social outfit of the Nayaks — Anusuchit Jaati Nayak Samaj Sewa Sangh — asked Sitesh and his family to appear before their caste panchayat to solve the dispute. “I denied their offer and chose to approach the police instead. As a result, a social boycott order was issued by the Sangh against my family,” Sitesh said. He added, “My family runs a small shop in Nayaktola and the Sangh has threatened to slap fines on those who buy items from there. This will ruin our business.”
