CHANDIGARH: The Centre has directed the UT administration to focus on areas reporting high number of novel coronavirus cases, restrengthen its system of declaring containment and micro-containment zones and put more teams on contact tracing The UT administration will hold a review meeting on Tuesday. Inputs from the health department and municipal corporation will be taken in the meeting to be chaired by UT administrator V P Singh Badnore.
Recently, the government had asked the administration to focus on five tools of vaccination, enhanced testing, strict containment, prompt contact tracing and enforcement of Covid-appropriate behaviour.
The states and UTs were also asked to increase number of beds in the hospitals for patients and to strengthen ambulance services to ensure people can reach hospitals on time, besides plan for a suitable number of necessary medical equipment, like ventilators and oxygen cylinders. The administration has sufficient number of beds and other medical facilities and if needed the UT administration will further strengthen them, a senior UT official said.
Following the nudge from the ministry of health and family welfare, RTPCR testing had increased to 80% recently. It was earlier flailing at 40% for a while.
