Gurgaon: The city reported 97 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, taking its tally to 60,097. Gurgaon has reported nearly 100 fresh cases after a gap of 81 days — daily new cases had witnessed a decline after December 26 last year, when the city had reported 99 fresh cases.
There are four containment zones in Gurgaon at present. The health department has now recommended to the district administration that five more areas be converted into containment zones, where random testing and restriction on movement will be implemented. It has already recommended 18 areas with over five active cases to be included in containment zones. After the list is approved by the administration, the city will have 23 more containment zones. “We are monitoring areas where more people are testing positive. Cases are on the rise as people are travelling frequently and not following Covid norms,” said Dr Virender Yadav, Gurgaon’s chief medical officer.
The city’s positivity rate is 2.1%. As of Wednesday, the city has 635 active cases, and 574 of the patients are in home isolation.
