Gurgaon: Kickstarting its first course for the Gurgaon campus, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Rohtak has launched a five-year Integrated Programme in Law (IPL) for students after 12th standard. The institute is the first B-school and only IIM to offer the programme, and will commence its academic session from September this year.
The five-year course will be a non-residential programme at IIM Rohtak’s extension campus in Gurgaon. Online registrations went live on Tuesday and students are invited to apply for the course till May 31. The institute will shortlist students for an online personal interview based on their scores in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) being conducted on June 13.
The interdisciplinary programme aims at providing an in-depth knowledge of business management with intricate details of law and governance. This programme will create an opportunity for the students to pursue global legal education through a curriculum and pedagogy that best reflects the study of international law, comparative law, foreign law, and domestic law.
“IIM Rohtak is the first and only IIM in the country to have introduced such an innovative programme that will focus on integrating management and legal education. The course will aim to produce experts in commercial law, financial law, company law, contracts and IP law. We will be the first IIM to offer such a course and hope it will appeal to students as it opens up doors to several career opportunities in the legal domain. Most corporations are looking for legal experts with management backgrounds,” IIM-Rohtak director Prof Dheeraj Sharma told TOI. Earlier this month, IIM-R was allotted around six acres of land to build its Gurgaon campus.
