Kerala: Minor girl dies of ‘torture’, stepfather in police custody | Thiruvananthapuram News

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A five-year-old girl died after being allegedly assault by her stepfather in Pathanamthitta on Monday.
The victim has been identified as the daughter of a couple from Rajapalayam in Tamil Nadu.
Police have taken her 23-year-old stepfather into custody and his arrest is likely to be recorded late on Monday. Police have charged a case for unnatural death.
Police said the incident happened when the mother, a daily wage worker, went out for work around 8am on Monday. When she returned around 2.30pm, she saw the girl lying unconscious in the room.
When she asked her husband about this, he beat her up. She then alerted the neighbours and took the girl to the hospital. However, she later succumbed to injuries.
Police are also probing whether the girl was sexually abused. Pathanamthitta station house officer Bineesh Lal said that they suspect murder as there were aberrations all over her body apart from wounds on her hands and leg.
He added that the accused is an alcoholic and ganja addict.
“Autopsy will be conducted at Kottayam Medical College Hospital on Tuesday,” he said.
The girl was staying with her mother and stepfather, who is also from Tamil Nadu, in a rented house at Kumbazha.
