Deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam on Thursday said the AIADMK would not permit the proposed expansion of the Kattupalli port by the Adani group in the ecologicallysensitive Ennore region.
During his election campaign in Ponneri, OPS said, “This is the request of the locals. Considering the welfare of the fishing community and accepting their demand, I wish to assure that the project will never be done. The AIADMK will not implement any scheme that affects the people.”
Exuding confidence that the AIADMK would retain power, OPS praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government for extending ‘generous’ financial support to Tamil Nadu.
“Our prospects are bright,” the deputy CM said at his Greenways Road residence, before heading to Thyagarajaswamy temple in Tiruvottiyur to seek blessings ahead of launching his campaign in Tiruvallur district.
The people gave a historic mandate for Jayalalithaa in 2016 since the state was a haven of peace in her rule. The last DMK regime could not resolve the power shortage in all its five years, and it was Jayalalithaa who made the state power surplus.
“How can you (the DMK) dream of regaining power,” the deputy chief minister said.
