Odisha to get 3.70 lakh doses of Covishield on Tuesday | Bhubaneswar News

BHUBANESWAR: The state will receive 3.70 lakh doses of Covishield on Tuesday evening. It has also got an assurance to get another 9.88 lakh doses by April 2 against a plea to supply 25 lakh doses.
Government authorities here said the supply is too less at a time the state was planning to increase daily vaccination coverage to around two lakh.
Additional chief secretary (health) Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra said the vaccination drive will slow down since 3.70 lakh doses would be too less for another more than a week.
Of the 25 lakh doses received so far, the state has already used 18.81 lakh doses and has a wastage of around 1.4%. The state vaccinated 97,067 people on Monday including first dose to 83,505 elderly above 60 years age. This increase senior citizens who have got the first dose to 9,64,161.
Similarly, 3.09 lakh healthcare workers have got the first shots and 2.49 lakh among them the second shot. Around 1.80 lakh frontline workers have received the first jab and 1.24 lakh of them have got second shot.
On March 12, the state health department had sought supply of 10 lakh doses of Covishield by March 18, which did not happen. On March 17, the state had requested for 25 lakh doses at the earliest.
