PATNA: Police arrested two youths from a rented room at Nehru Nagar under Patliputra police station area in state capital on Monday night for allegedly looting Rs 9 lakh after shooting a cash van guard Lal Saheb Singh in front of an ATM kiosk at Alpana market in Patliputra colony on March 19.
City SP (central) Vinay Tiwari while addressing media on Tuesday said that arrested youths had been identified as Aditya Ranjan alias Kanhai Singh of Pokharbhinda under Sahiyara police station area and Vicky Kumar of Dhanhara under Runnisaidpur police station area, both in Sitamarhi.
The SP said that Rs 5.25 lakh of the looted amount, two country made semiautomatic pistols, seven live cartridges, one blue bike along with cloths worn during the time of crime were recovered from their possession.
“Aditya is a notorious wanted criminals accused in several serious nature cases like of kidnapping, extortion, loot and dacoity registered with different police stations of Sitamarhi and neighbouring district,” Tiwari said.
He said Aditya was continuously evading arrest there. SP said Sitamarhi police has been informed about his arresting and added that both arrested accused had been to jail on multiple occasions in the past.
SP Tiwari said that it was Aditya who had opened fired on the guard which resulted his death after few hours during treatment.
“Police have the pistol used in crime, pellet recovered from guards body fired from the pistol and an empty cartridge ejected at the spot which would be sent to forensic laboratory for ballistic matching to establish in court that he was present at spot. In addition, police also have CCTV camera footages of the crime in which they are visible wearing those cloths recovered from their room,” he said.
SP said that Aditya’s two more associate were still evading arrest and rest of the looted money is in their possession. “They have fled out of Patna. Aditya and Vicky were also planning to escape out of Bihar,” he said.
Tiwari said that Aditya had hired room at Nehru Nagar two months back by providing forged identity cards to house owner. “They had reached using the bike recovered from them. It was looted in Sitamarhi,” he said.
SP said that it was the gang’s first crime in Patna. “Their motive was to loot cash at the time it is taken out of cash vans for feeding in ATM kiosks. They were trailing the cash van targeted on March 19 for at least two days,” he said.
