CHANDIGARH: Burglars broke into a house of a senior assistant in Punjab Police in Sector 43 on Saturday and fled with cash and gold and silver jewellery.
Nirlep Kaur had gone to her office at the Punjab Police headquarters in Sector 9 after locking her house in the morning. When she returned in the evening, she found the lock broken. She said her almirah was opened and house ransacked.
She said Rs1 lakh, a gold set, a silver bracelet and important documents were missing.
Cops from Sector 36 police station reached the spot. A forensics team collected fingerprints and other evidence. Sector 36 police recorded the statement of Kaur and registered a case. Police are scrutinising footage from CCTV cameras to secure clues about the accused.
Pallavi, a resident of Nayagaon, said her laptop bag was stolen from a bus in Sector 43 bus stand. She said she was going her native place Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. She said she had kept her laptop bag on the bus seat and stepped out to buy a ticket. When she returned, her laptop bag was missing. Police registered a theft case and later arrested Balram, a resident of Rohtak, for the theft.
