GUWAHATI: CPI (M-L) Liberation, an ally of the Congress-led grand alliance, has urged people to liberate the state from “BJP’s misrule”.
CPI (M-L) Liberation candidate Bibek Das will take on BJP candidate and incumbent MLA Ranjit Dutta in the Behali seat, which has been given to the Left party by Congress according to the seat-sharing deal among the political parties in the grand alliance.
Das faced off against Dutta in the 2016 assembly elections, but faced a heavy defeat, receiving only 8,025 votes against Dutta’s 52,152. Congress candidate Rupak Sarma secured 28,551 votes. The CPI(M-L) Liberation was not part of any alliance in the last election.
Party national general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya on Monday said, “We are confident of winning Behali seat. The greater objective is to save democracy, secure lives and livelihood of the people of Assam. For that, we urge the people to dethrone the BJP.”
He said BJP is the enemy of all democratic rights granted by the Constitution of India. “Move to implement CAA is a threat to democracy and an insult to Assam. The party has not taken any concrete step to provide constitutional safeguard to people of the state by implementing the Clause 6 of the Assam Accord,” he added.
He said BJP’s policies, including largescale privatization and agricultural laws, are against the people of the country. He added that the farm laws, if implemented, will finish the food security system in the country, as a result of which people will die of starvation.
He said economic reforms in the country is the need of the hour and for that “capitalist BJP” must be ousted from power.
Except Behali, CPI (M-L) Liberation will fight in other four constituencies outside the grand alliance.
