AGRA: A 55-year-old sadhu was allegedly hacked to death with an axe by an unidentified person in Agra’s Mau village under new Agra police jurisdiction. The police have registered an FIR and arrested the suspect within few hours of the murder of the priest.
According to police, they received information on Wednesday morning around 6:30 am that a blood-stained body was lying in the temple premises. Immediately, a police team reached the spot and launched a probe. Preliminary investigations revealed that a local youth Jeetu, 29, was spotted with the priest Shiv Giri last night.
Police arrested the suspect. During interrogation, he confessed killing of the priest and told police that after consuming liquor he and his accomplices had gone to the temple, where sadhu raised objections when he tried to enter the temple. This led to a heated arguments and in a fit of rage he hacked him with an axe.
SP (city) Botre Rohan Pramod said that the axe was recovered from the crime spot and the body has been sent for post mortem.
