Greater Noida: Will pod taxi be a good option to improve the mobility to the Noida International Airport? Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has asked Indian Port Rail and Ropeway Corporation Limited to find out. The public limited company will find out feasibility of the personal rapid transit system in the Jewar region within a month.
To improve connectivity of the Film City project in Sector 21 with Noida International Airport, the rapid system which is also known as pod cars will be used as a shuttle service between the two locations. YEIDA is in talks with various transport consultants and experts to find out the best public transport medium to cover the 6.5-km distance between the Filmcity and the airport.
Acoording to YEIDA, both the projects are expected to commence commercial operations in 2024-25. Sharing details of the preliminary discussions and research work, chief executive officer of the authority, Arun Vir Singh, said that the entire project could be executed within a budget of Rs 400 crore.
“There are two ways to run podcar services. While one requires manual intervention, the other is fully automated and driverless and is widely being used in the western countries. We have got estimates of per km expenditure. Both feasibility of the project and detailed project report has been sought from the corporation. They have been appointed as the consultant and given work order on Friday,” Singh said.
The corporation has been given time of 30 days to revert with the compiled report. The state government has assured Zurich AG subsidiary, which will develop the airport, of providing multi-modal connectivity at the airport site. The service will be completely integrated in order to make sure that visitors have no need to step out of the airport premises to reach Sector 21.
